Races Around Here: Tri for the Girls

Despite the name, Vidalia's Tri for the Girls is not a triathlon only for women. Instead, the name is a reference to the breast cancer charity the event helps. The event, on Oct. 6, 2012, includes a triathlon, duathlon, and 5k. The bike leg on this event is relatively short at 10.8 miles, but is otherwise a normal sprint-distance event.

Races Around Here: Farm Day 5k and 1 Mile

The Saturday of the Farm Day festival in Lumber City, GA, usually features a 5k and 1-mile race. While the registration pdf currently has the dates for last year on it, from what I've heard, there still should be a race on September 8.

Races Around Here: Pirates on the Run 5k & 1 Mile

Baxley, GA, seems to have an unusual number of races for such a small town and if last year's Fall Fitness and this year's Tree Trek races are any sign, they're very well run. A third 5k and 1 mile race will be held at the high school's tennis and baseball complex (behind the school) on August 18, 2012. From what I've been able to find out, registration the day of may be the only way to sign up for this event. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. and the 1 mile kicks off at 7 p.m. with the 5k following at 7:30.

Races Around Here: Heels and Wheels Triathlon, Waycross

The Heels and Wheels for Megan's House Triathlon & Duathlon Challenge will be held at Laura S. Walker State Park in Waycross, GA, August 25, 2012. The sprint triathlon course is a quarter-mile swim, 13-mile bike, and 3-mile run. The duathlon course is a 2-mile run, 13-mile bike, and 3-mile run. If you register by August 1, the price for entry is $50. After that, it's $60 until August 22, and it's $75 the day of the race. If you're a triathlete in southeastern Georgia, please make sure to include this in your race schedule if at all possible. We really want to encourage these events when they're in our back yard.
